This work proposes techniques for augmented reality to treat phobic patients who are unable to perform the treatment in vivo exposure to the phobic object or situation, in particular, patients diagnosed as arachnophobic. The state of the art treatment of psychological disorders using exposure of objects to the treatment, shows that there is a need to innovate in ways of applying the treatment to be successful in the observed cases evaluated in the research and work done in scientific circles. This need is reflected in the treatment of psychological disorders using exposure of objects, places or animals, as in the case of phobias. Many studies show that the use of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in the treatment of psychological illnesses have obtained interesting successes, which justifies the choice of these techniques for this study. An augmented reality system was developed to assist therapists in the treatment of Arachnophobia. The fact that the necessary programming libraries are still in the experimental stage was one of the major difficulties of this work. To cope with these difficulties, we developed new ways of programming that allowed a better coding system. The system developed with therapists has two types of visualization of RA, visionbased monitor and direct vision with glasses of RA and has incremental level of 3D objects. The prototype was tested by the therapists consultants and system users. They evaluated, and an incremental process, provided important contributions to its development. When analyzing the results of the tests, one can observe that the equipment used by the prototype for the treatment, such as web cameras, sunglasses, RA, monitor, are essential for successful treatment, becoming primary attention given to these items. The results note the feasibility of using augmented reality techniques for the treatment of Arachnophobia and the possibility of psychological treatment of other diseases of the same nature.
