Focus and Scope

The development of ecotoxicology in Brazil deserves not only scientific but also educational and economical consideration. Actually the development of this scientific areas depends not only on investments but also on the availability of qualified personal mainly now, when the scientific knowledge is showing an improvement in Latin America. In Brazil, the number of scientific papers published has exponentially increased in the last decades and the projects number in the ecotoxicology area presents the same tendency. This trend is expected to continue in the future and is reflected by the creation of specialized journals. Thus, the journal Ecotoxicology and Environmental Contamination - EEC (former Journal of the Brazilian Society of Ecotoxicology - JBSE), published by ECOTOX-Brazil, is a scientific journal committed to work as a forum for discussion of several aspects related to the development of ecotoxicology, covering the fields below:

1. Marine and Estuarine Ecotoxicology
2. Freshwater Ecotoxicology
3. Terrestrial Ecotoxicology
4. Atmospheric Ecotoxicology
5. Effluent Ecotoxicology
6. Environmental Chemistry
7. Ecotoxicological Education

Through peer-reviewed original article, short communication, review article, point of view, technical note and research group bulletin, the EEC publishes in English, in Spanish and Portuguese, furthering scientific knowledge and disseminating valuable information that can be used for the development of ecologically acceptable practices and principles, enhancing the ecological health and human welfare in the region.

Open Access Policy

This Journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that the free access to scientific knowledge provides greater world-wide democratization of the knowledge. The publication is free of charge to the authors.

Peer Review Process

The manuscript should be submitted through the online system, after which the Submission Editor will conduct a preliminary assessment on the capability of publishing the paper. If the work is approved in this instance, the manuscript will be available for an Associate Editor and at least two reviewers. After review, the manuscript will be sent to authors with the comments. The time to render a first decision is up to 60 days, but times vary depending on how long it takes for the editor to receive and assess reviews.

If approved and corrections are necessary, suggestions will be sent to the authors by online system. The authors should proceed with corrections accepting the changes or giving a justification when not heeded, within 30 days. After that, if the authors do not upload the new version in the system, the submission will be automatic archived.

The Associate Editor is responsible for the final decision on the approval of the article.
